"The Big Man" - 2000 Clydesdale/Thoroughbred Cross

Duke is the biggest equine in the herd--and the biggest whiner! He has a loving disposition and eagerly meets everyone who comes to the barn. He is very attached to Challah, a warmblood mare in our herd, but we have to keep them separated so he doesn’t become overly stressed upon being taken away from her.

He is leased to us from Dr. Jack Gillette, who bought Duke to do eventing. Duke eventually became a schoolmaster at a training facility, teaching many youngsters to ride. He has also been taken back country trail riding by Dr Gillette, but because of his size, he is not always a suitable mount to take on narrow, steep, winding trails.

When Duke was retired from the training barn, Dr. Gilette brought him to us. Duke is a safe and wonderfully patient teacher for riders of all sizes. He has smooth gaits and is comfortable to ride.

Though his jumping days are gone, Duke is still a solid flatwork mount and loves to go on less challenging trail rides, making him a great teacher.
